Thrilling Triumph for Senior Squad

St Margaret’s Hampstead (STM) took on South Hampstead High School’s (SHHS) Year 10 Tournament A-team in a fiercely contested match, showcasing skill, determination and teamwork across all four quarters. With a strong squad made up from Years 7 to 11, our team was ready for the challenge ahead.

The match began with both sides displaying high energy and defensive resilience. The first quarter ended in a 0-0 stalemate, with both teams’ goalkeepers producing outstanding saves to keep the game level. STM’s defensive line held firm, and our attacking players worked tirelessly to break through SHHS’s organised defence.

In the second quarter, STM fielded a different team. The high pressure and determination from our attackers led to an opening goal, which instantly gave the squad a boost, reinforcing the belief that we could go on and win. Another followed in quick succession with a well-worked team goal, doubling STM’s lead. We began to dominate the game, with our defenders dictating play. The game was played mostly in SHHS’s half, and our goal keeper didn’t have much to deal with. The second quarter ended 2-0 to STM.

In the third quarter, STM reverted back to the team that started the match. SHHS came out fast and scored early, shifting the momentum in their favour. We produced some incredible saves again to keep STM ahead but, inevitably, the constant pressure led to SHHS equalising just before the end of the third quarter, making it 2-2.

STM still believed they could win this game and gave everything in the final quarter. In a moment of brilliance, STM scored a stunning long-range strike, hitting both posts before going in. Our instrumental midfielder then controlled the game and lead the team to victory. SHHS didn’t give up and saved at least five shots before the final whistle.

STM held on to secure a thrilling 3-2 win. The team’s resilience, teamwork and sheer determination were outstanding. I couldn’t be more pleased with the girls for their tremendous effort. This was the first time we assembled a Senior School team, and the girls were simply unbelievable!
