Entry by year group: a step-by-step guide

How to apply

Reception entry

For Reception, parents should complete their daughter’s registration form by the end of November the year preceding her September entry. Your daughter will then be invited in to attend an assessment in that autumn term with a member of our Infant teaching staff, and we will request a reference from her current nursery/school. We also take Reception applications throughout the year to add to the wait list.

How to apply

Entry into Year 3 (7+)

Please register your daughter using the online registration form prior to the application deadline of Monday 9th November 2026. The assessment will be held on Thursday 13th November 2026 at St Margaret's Hampstead, and will involve a Mathematics test, a short piece of free writing and a comprehension English task. The teacher taking the assessment will chat to your daughter at some point, but we will use her school reference as the main source of information about her character. The girls will be with us for around 2 hours.
How to apply

Entry into Year 7 (11+)

Each year, we welcome a few new girls to join those moving up from our Junior School into Year 7. For 11+ entry in September 2027, girls must be born between 1st September 2015 and 31 August 2016. Simply fill in our registration form online, submit the requested documentation and pay the registration fee (£180). If your daughter has access arrangements, we encourage you to send in the relevant documentation by 1st October 2026. We are part of the London 11+ Consortium and, therefore, your daughter will sit the Consortium assessment (see more information below). The key dates for 11+ (Year 7) 2026 entry can be found below.

How to apply

Occasional places

While our main entry points are Reception, Year 3 and Year 7, we warmly welcome applications throughout the year for occasional places in other year groups. Spaces sometimes become available in Years 1-2, 4–6 and 8–10, and we encourage families to apply at any time. For entry into Year 6, pupils will be considered where they show strong potential to thrive in our Senior School. Applicants for Year 10 should have GCSE subject choices that align with our current curriculum. When a vacancy arises, all applicants are invited to take part in our entrance assessment and interview, and we will also request a reference from their current school.
