Bursaries

A bursary is a means-tested award, meaning the amount of financial assistance is determined by the financial situation of the parent or parents. For those with low income, a bursary may be awarded to cover some or all of a girl’s fees, helping to remove financial barriers to her education.

The bursary application process is thorough and designed to ensure fairness. It is also completely confidential.

To determine the level of support, an independent evaluator assesses a family’s financial situation, taking into account both income and assets. As part of this process, applicants will be required to show documentation, such as bank statements and payslips. In some cases, a home visit may also be part of the evaluation.

To be considered for a bursary, all prospective pupils must go through the same assessment process as any other applicant. This ensures that a St Margaret’s Hampstead education is a suitable fit for every girl. For entry into Year 7 and above, this includes taking the standard entrance test in English and Mathematics.

Girls applying for a bursary are not required to achieve higher than the minimum entry criteria. While bursaries are normally awarded for students in Year 7 and above, they may be offered to those in lower years if there are no suitable applicants.
